Student helps those in need of warmth

A Pleasant Valley student continues to help those in need during the holidays.

The third annual Warm Drive organized by Illy Green, a student at Pleasant Valley Intermediate School, is underway.

Illy, 11, started helping the less fortunate two years ago by gathering essential items and handing them out or donating them.

“With my mom’s help, I have gone from a few blankets and some sweatshirts to needing a U-Haul to deliver all the things we get,” Illy said. “This is my third year collecting, and with your help, I’m hoping to make this the best year yet.”

Stacey Green, Illy’s mother, said they plan to again hand out food and clothing to the homeless. Donations are being accepted until Dec. 22.

“We have no real destination,” Stacey Green said. “We just go where we know there are homeless.”

This year, they plan to help three area organizations: Peaceful Knights, Family Promise of Carbon County, and Valor.

In addition, they will also help Kare and Assist, an organization in the Philadelphia area.

“If someone is in need, my mom and I will find them, feed them and cloth them,” Illy said.

Stacey Green said that last year they had to rent a U-Haul for donations because Illy was able to serve that many people.

“We are willing to pick any donation or meet,” she said. “Not only are we feeding people, but we are going to hand out clothing, hygiene items and blankets, gloves, hats and anything that keeps someone warm.”

Stacey Green said they are looking for turkeys, mashed potatoes boxed, corn, and brownie mix, along with cases of water.

Drop-offs can be made during regular business hours to AS Public Notary, 3295 Forest Inn Road, Suite 7, Palmerton, Pa. 18071.
