Palmerton to host 10th annual Christmas in the Park Saturday
Palmerton’s 10th annual Christmas in the Park is Saturday.
Sponsored by The Holiday Lighting Committee, the event is from noon to 5 p.m. in the Palmerton Borough Park.
It will feature 154 trees and 30 vendors, while entertainment is scheduled throughout the day, according to Michele O’Neill, chairperson of the event.
“It’s our 10th year, which is kind of a big deal from where we started off with just trying to put trees in the park and figure out the who, what, why, where, and how,” O’Neill said. “We’ve got a great day planned; we have our highest number of vendors that we’ve ever had.”
The event will also include the Towamensing Elementary School Chorus, the students from Off the Charts Music School, horse drawn carriage rides by Steiner Artisan Farm from 1-4 p.m., a face painter complements of the Holiday Lighting Committee, and Santa will be in the Bandstand for the children to visit from 1-3 p.m. Children must be in line by 2:30 p.m.
The event will conclude with the Christmas tree lighting ceremony at 5 p.m.
The Holiday Lighting Committee will accept donations of non-perishable food products to support CACPAC, as well as toy donations for the local holiday toy drive.

O’Neill noted there is an inclement weather date of Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
“The biggest thing we’re facing right now is the weather; (Saturday’s) looking not so great,” said O’Neill, who added they will make a decision Friday afternoon as to whether the event will be postponed until Sunday. “At the moment, we are still able to have a full docket on Sunday (if the event doesn’t take place on Saturday).”
O’Neill said the decision will be announced on Facebook on the Palmerton Holiday Lighting Committee hosting Christmas in the Park, and by word of mouth.
“Enjoy the whole season; the trees are up through New Years,” she said. “Take time out to enjoy with the family, walk through the park, take a couple of slow moments to enjoy.”
O’Neill guaranteed those who do won’t be disappointed.
“Slowly wander through,” she said. “The creativity that I’m seeing is unbelievable; the work that families and companies (are doing), it amazes me.”
