Worldwide Children’s Remembrance Day to be observed Dec. 11
Zion United Church of Christ in Lehighton will have a service to remember children who are gone too soon.
The annual Children’s Remembrance and Candle Lighting Service is at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 11 in the sanctuary of Zion UCC, Second and Iron streets.
The service will include readings, music, and a time for lighting candles in loving memory of all our children, siblings and grandchildren.
There will also be a time of fellowship and light refreshments in the church dining room after the service.
The second Sunday in December of each year is designated as “Worldwide Children’s Remembrance Day,” It is a time to commemorate and honor the memory of children who have died at any age from any cause.
Since 1997, a Worldwide Candle Lighting, believed to be the largest mass candle lighting in the world, has created a 24-hour wave of light as it moves from time zone to time zone at 7 p.m. local time.
The observance was initiated by The Compassionate Friends, an international organization that provides support to families after a child dies, as a gift for families to remember the children who have died too soon, but will never be forgotten.
There will be a slide show of all beloved children, siblings and grandchildren, as well as display remembrance ornaments on an annual remembrance tree.
The tree remains present throughout the holiday season, and for those who already have an ornament, it will be included.
Anyone who would like to add, or update their ornament, is welcome to do so.
The photos should be emailed to include for the slide show to carbontcfremembrance@gmail.com.
Those who submitted photos last year may simply send a message to use the same photo, or include a new selection.
Include your loved one’s name as you would like it to appear on the slide.
In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 12.
