Man charged with assaulting ex-girlfriend

A Weatherly man has been charged with repeatedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Zachary Wargula of the Weatherly Police Department in the case against Alfonso Sebia:

On Oct. 23, Wargula was dispatched to TJ’s One Stop Convenience Store, 218 Carbon St., for a report of a woman who was assaulted at her residence in Weatherly.

Wargula and Chief Brian Markovchick spoke with the woman outside who said she was assaulted by her reported ex-boyfriend, Sebia, 45.

The woman said she lives with Sebia and that he assaulted her several times.

The woman said the incident started Oct. 22 into Oct. 23 and that Sebia smashed her head against the wall, pulled her by her hair, and choked her until she lost consciousness.

On Oct. 23, Sebia dropped the woman off at TJ’s where she works and she told her boss she was hurt.

The woman called Sebia’s daughter to take her to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton.

Hospital records showed that the woman had a sprained knee, contusions to her head, and a slipped disc in her cervical spine resulting in narrowing of the spinal cord, and causing pressure on the spinal cord or nerve roots.

Sebia faces charges on three counts of strangulation and one count of aggravated assault, strangulation.

He is incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 cash bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Nov. 30 before District Judge Joseph D. Homanko Sr. of Weatherly.
