Having experienced a rebirth thanks to donations, recreational activities and an overall uptick in business, the Russian Citizens Club in Coaldale will hold its 100th anniversary event tonight.

The event comes at a time when club members had been planning to permanently close the headquarters on First Street due to fewer people patronizing it and a rise in operational costs.

Lisa Hiles, club recording secretary, said the club has experienced a turnaround due to various activities, including shuffleboard, pool and dart nights.

The club was founded on March 19, 1913, and incorporated on July 2 of that year as the “Russian Greek Catholic Citizens Club of Coaldale, PA.”
