PA 124th Legislative District
Republican Jamie Barton of East Brunswick Township and Democrat Tina Burns of Tamaqua will go head-to-head on Tuesday’s General Election for the right to represent the 124th District.
The winner will succeed Rep. Jerry Knowles, Hometown, who is retiring.
The district includes part of Berks County, including the townships of Albany, Greenwich, Maxatawny, Tilden, Upper Bern, Upper Tulpehocken and Windsor and the boroughs of Hamburg, Kutztown and Lenhartsville, and part of Schuylkill County, consisting of the townships of Delano, East Brunswick, Rush, Ryan, Schuylkill, South Manheim, Walker, West Brunswick and West Penn and the boroughs of Auburn, Coaldale, Deer Lake, Landingville, New Ringgold, Orwigsburg, Port Clinton and Tamaqua.
There are 64,846 residents in the district.
Barton won the GOP nomination in the May Primary Election by defeating Elle Rulavage of Windsor Township and Jill Saunders of Hamburg. Burns was unopposed on the Democratic side.
For the past 32 years, Barton has worked for Jack Rich, Inc., an energy business. He is a vice president for the firm.
In 2017, he was named Citizen of the year by the Orwigsburg Lions Club. A year ago, he was the Schuylkill County Chamber of Commerce’s Businessman of the Year.
Burns grew up in New Ringgold and graduated from Tamaqua Area High School, later serving in the U.S. Coast Guard.
Currently employed as a health care consultant, she holds a Master of Science degree in industrial organizational psychology from Florida International University.
Knowles, meanwhile, is retiring after serving in the House since 2009, currently serving on the Judiciary and Local Government committees.
A Pennsylvania representative’s base salary is $95,432.
