CCTI amends snow delay/closing plan

The Carbon Career & Technical Institute Joint Operating Committee voted to amend the weather delay and cancelation procedure for the school.

CCTI will now follow the Jim Thorpe School District. If Jim Thorpe delays or cancels school, CCTI will do the same.

“It just makes sense that, if Jim Thorpe says the roads are bad, if we need a two-hour delay or if we need to close, it just makes sense that they (CCTI) would close as well,” said Jim Thorpe superintendent Robert Presley.

In the past, the procedure was if three of the five Carbon County schools were delayed or closed, then CCTI would also delay or close.

“This is a process that has been going on for 20 years,” said Brent Borzak, CCTI administrative director. “Believe me, I’ve heard many complaints; and it’s a risk for staff, bus companies, parents and students. This just makes it more effective to go by where the school is located geographically.

“I want to thank Robert (Presley) for hearing us out, and the other superintendents for making this wise and safe decision for all of our students and staff.”
