Movement was made on road projects in Slatington.
A motion was passed at the Slatington Borough Council meeting Monday night to authorize Lehigh Engineering to prepare a study concerning the costs for paving upgrades in the northern area of Slatington. This is basically from the school district and up, and the Spring subdivision.
The motion also included that this project will be moved to the Highway Committee to set the cost limits for the study.
“We should apply and not lose those (grant), Councilman Byron Reed said. “We have an idea of what areas we want to do, and we might include the Fourth Street Extension and Maple Spring. We shouldn’t pass up the opportunity to apply.”
The council also made the motion to approve a resolution approving the application of a Multimodal Grant from the state Department of Transportation for the Borough of Slatington for $1,177,446.04.
A template was sent by borough manager Daniel Stevens to residents for a letter of support for the Pennsylvania Multimodal Grant.
Council also made a motion to authorize the Highway Committee to apply for COVID-19 ARPA H20 Pennsylvania Grant and authorize the committee to determine which project will be applied for.
The grant amount can be between $500,000 to $20,000,000, with a 50% match from the borough.
The borough has also received some funding. The council announced that the borough received two Lehigh County Supporting Awards.
The first award is for $95,718.50 for reconstruction of East South Street from Main Street to Second Street. The second Lehigh County Supporting award is for $96,867.92 for reconstruction of East South Street from Second Street to Fairview Street.
