Coaldale borough will have a Halloween party in conjunction with trick or trial on Sunday, Oct. 30.

Events start at 4:30 p.m. at the Coaldale Complex, but will be indoors if it rains.

Trick or treat will be from 6 to 8 p.m.

The band Burn the Jukebox will play at the event.

The borough is looking for snow plow drivers for the winter and a part-time police officer. Applications and more information are available at the municipal building at 221 3rd St, Coaldale. Phone 570-645-6310

Councilman Jacob Adamitis gave the report for the Coaldale Fire Department.

He said in September there were 16 calls and the department has received a total of 37 this year.

Councilwoman Yvonne Stoffey gave the borough’s police report for September.

She said $123.01 was collected by the police. There were 79 calls and police patrolled 1,672 miles.

Stoffey read a letter from Police Chief Keith Kraph, who recommended donating a used SUV from the borough.

The 2016 Ford Explorer was taken out of service and replaced with a new SUV. It has approximately 131,000 miles on it, and is in need of some mechanical repairs.

“Although this vehicle has served well,” Chief Kraph wrote, “it is in my opinion that this vehicle remain out of service for law enforcement purposes.”

Krapf said that the Tamaqua EMS is interested in the SUV, looking to replace an older SUV with a quick-response unit.

“I am asking borough council to consider donating the 2016 Ford Explorer to the Tamaqua EMS for such use,” Chief Krapf wrote.

“I appreciate and always agreed with the chief’s recommendations when it comes to vehicles,” councilwoman Claire Remington said. “But times are tough for everybody, and there are a lot of people buying used vehicles. I would just like us, before we donate it, to see if we can make some money. If we don’t get a response, I would have no problem donating it.”

Councilman Frank Hutta made a motion to advertise and see if they can sell the vehicle. Councilman Wayne Figner seconded the motion.

Portnoff Law Associates collected $2,824.37 for September in delinquent sanitation fees, for a total of $14,743.08 this year. Total delinquent Sewer Transmission fees collected were $6,852.36, and total delinquent taxes collected were $34,615.07

Council approved payment of the fee for Municipal Risk Management for the renewal price of $27,140. Last year the amount was $18,014.

Council approved the bids by William Keys for two properties: 257 West High Street and a lot next to it.

Council voted to deny and object the bids for three properties by JPM Holdings, LLC: 115 6th Street, 17 East Ridge Street, and 274 3rd Street.

“I’m voting ‘no’,” said Remington. “He still has not finished even one property in Coaldale. Not one is finished.”

The bids are for properties that have delinquent taxes on them.

“Whenever there’s a bid,” said Solicitor Robert Yurchak, “all the three taxing bodies must approve the bid. If one does not approve it, it does not go through.”

Hutta said that half the roof on the complex building with be done.

Remington said that with the complex in operation an exterminator must be called in.
