Township considers sludge request
Towmanensing Township supervisors will take concerns about sewage sludge regulations under advisement.
The board on Thursday heard a request from Linda Christman, president of Save Carbon County, to address sewage sludge regulations at its next meeting.
Save Carbon County is opposed to using treated sewage sludge as fertilizer for landscaping or agriculture, and have approached various municipalities about the subject.
The group has asked municipalities to adopt a resolution that would support better regulations of the sludge.
Supervisors agreed to address sewage sludge regulations when it meets at 7 p.m. Nov. 3.
Also on Thursday, supervisors finalized disbursement of the 2022 Fire Relief Funds.
The township will disperse $2,500 each to Polk, Franklin and Lower Towamensing townships, with the remainder of the $30,001 going to the Towamensing Township Fire Company Relief Fund.
In other business, supervisors:
• Announced the Pennsylvania Turnpike between the Mahoning and Lehigh Valley exits will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14 to 4 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17.
• Heard from Donald Bonett, a member of the Historical Committee, who said the committee is in need of members. “We’re looking forward to the future, but losing track of the past,” Bonett said.
• Approved a 60-day extension request by Lehigh Engineering for the Bryon Hahn plans. The board granted the request after discussing the driveways and subdivision plan for the property.
• Agreed to post the township balers on Municibid for $510.
• Discussed a resolution to dispose of municipal records was accepted. The resolution will be on the agenda for the Nov. 3 meeting.
• Announced trick-or-treat will be held from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 29.
