Council hears request to not be billed for garbage

A model railroad group says it shouldn’t have to pay garbage fees in Bowmanstown.

Garry Mack, president of the Carbon Model Railroad Society, 529 Ore St., told borough council on Tuesday the organization doesn’t use the services.

“We still don’t put garbage out, and we’re being charged,” Mack said. “I would just not like to be billed for the club.”

The organization has occupied space in a former Catholic Chapel for 18 years.

“We’d like to see if we could get by without being billed for garbage,” Mack said.

Council President Pam Leiby said everyone in the borough has to pay.

Leiby told Mack that council will check into the matter.

Borough council voted 4-1 recently to increase the borough’s monthly garbage rate to $33.

The new rate went into effect this past Saturday, with an $18 a month increase.
