Local volunteers are working to ensure that all veterans at Sky View Memorial Park in Hometown are honored this December on National Wreaths Across America Day.
Ceremonies will be held simultaneously across the country at more than 3,100 participating locations on Dec. 17. The goal is to place a live, balsam fir wreath at the headstone of every service member.
Volunteers for the Sky View Memorial Park event hope to raise enough funds to place 3,600 sponsored veterans’ wreaths on the headstones of all the local heroes laid to rest there.
This is the third year that the cemetery will participate in the national program.
Wreaths Across America started as a gesture of thanks that has grown into a national movement of volunteers and communities coming together to not only remember the nation’s fallen and honor their service, but to teach the next generation about the sacrifices made by U.S. military personnel.
