Local Roundup: Results from Sept. 29

Jim Thorpe’s girls soccer and volleyball teams continued its excellent seasons with wins on Thursday.

Lehighton also posted a pair of wins in girls soccer and volleyball.

GIRLS SOCCER

Jim Thorpe-Tamaqua

Alexis Marotto scored the game’s only goal with 25:52 remaining to lift Jim Thorpe to a 1-0 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua.

Jim Thorpe outshot Tamaqua 24-4 in the contest. Cecilia Ulicny had 23 saves for Tamaqua, while Olivia Rosenberger secured four saves to record the shutout for the Olympians.

The shutout was Thorpe’s ninth of the season, while the goal moved its season total to 71. Both those numbers are program records. Thorpe has only allowed three goals so far this season.

The win upped the Olympians record to 11-1, while Tamaqua fell to 5-9.

Lehighton-Salisbury

Charli McHugh had three goals and an assist to lead Lehighton to a 5-0 non-league victory over host Salisbury.

Mylee Lustko (one goal, two assists) and Cheyenne Marx (one goal, one assist) also had big games for the Indians (7-5). Marx’s goal was a highlight-reel header into the top left corner of the net off a McHugh corner kick.

The loss dropped Salisbury to 6-9.

Palmerton-Notre Dame

Palmerton edged Notre Dame, 2-1, in a Colonial League game.

Beth Morgan and Hadlee Lake both scored for the Bombers, who improved to 11-2 on the season.

The loss drops Notre Dame to 6-6.

Wilson-Northwestern

Cammy Fitch had a hat trick to lead Northwestern to a 7-0 Colonial League victory over Wilson.

The Tigers, who improved to 11-3-1, also received goals from Miriya Fratrik, Brook Balliet, Jayden Gillette and Juliet Benvin.

Sammy Bardonner registered two assists in the contest, while Kiersten Klein, Katie Brensinger, Kiersten Shupp, Lexi Vennera, Sarah Renner all had one helper.

No. Lehigh-So. Lehigh

Southern Lehigh blanked Northern Lehigh, 2-0, in Colonial League action.

Erika Patel and Kylie Painter both had goals for the Spartans (10-3-1), who outshot Northern Lehigh, 13-1

Goalie Dekota Barthold made 11 saves for the Bulldogs (10-5).

Pine Grove-Weatherly

Unbeaten Pine Grove rolled to a 10-0 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

McKenna Valentine, Victorya Lukenbach and Kyra Troutman all scored a pair of goals for the Cardinals (11-0-1).

Goalie Emma Kane made 29 saves for the Wreckers (2-10).

FIELD HOCKEY

Pleasant Valley-Parkland

Parkland pieced together a dominant effort in a 5-1 victory at Pleasant Valley in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference matchup.

Heather Todaro scored the lone goal for the Bears (2-9-1), and Matti Hyland had the assist.

Parkland (9-2) received a pair of goals from Lainie Walker and Maya Zaun, while Lily Kyvelos added a single tally.

VOLLEYBALL

Jim Thorpe-Lourdes

Jim Thorpe turned in another dominant performance to remain undefeated, sweeping Lourdes 25-13, 25-10, 25-14 in Schuylkill League play.

Maggy Hallihan did a little bit of everything for the Olympians as she finished with 30 assists, 17 service points, six kills, four digs and three aces. Also contributing to the victory were Brianna Snisky (six kills, two blocks, 10 digs, 19 service points, four aces); Brooke Mitzen (16 kills, five digs); Leah Figura (two kills, three aces, seven service points); Priscilla Patton (three kills, two aces, six service points); Maura Malaska (four digs, three aces); and Olivia Calcaño (12 digs).

Jim Thorpe is now 13-0.

Panther Vy.-Mahanoy Area

In Schuylkill League play, Panther Valley swept Mahanoy Area 25-14, 25-18, 25-7.

Morgan Orsulak (23 assists, nine digs, six kills, three aces, and three blocks); Riley McArdle (15 digs, 11 kills, one block, and three digs) and Natalie Vermillion (14 kills, 11 digs, two aces) all had huge all-around performances for the Panthers.

Panther Valley is now 10-2 overall, while Mahanoy Area falls to 6-5.

Marian-Schuylkill Haven

Marian rolled to a 25-10, 25-13, 25-14 Schuylkill League victory over Schuylkill Haven.

Megan Paisley and Abbey Kluck both had strong all-around games for the Fillies. Paisley finished with nine kills and 16 digs, while Kluck added six kills and 14 digs. Fatikha Tkhtova was a force at the net with nine kills and five blocks. Also contributing to the win were Julia Meiss (26 assists); Jenna Goff (four digs, four aces); and Megan Reaman (five digs, two aces).

Marian is now 10-4 on the season. Haven slipped to 4-9.

Lehighton-North Schuylkill

Lehighton rallied for an 11-25, 27-25, 25-20, 25-19 Schuylkill League win over North Schuylkill.

Lily Kershner led the way at the net for the Indians with nine kills and five blocks. She also added four aces. Also playing well were Makenna Snyder (five kills, six aces, four digs); Haley Ginder (seven kills, three aces); Madelyn Sofranko (23 assists); Lorah Thomas (three kills, three blocks); Amanda Burns (four kills) and Lyla Kershner (seven digs).

Lehighton is now 5-9, while North Schuylkill dropped to 6-6.

ES North-Pleasant Vy.

Pleasant Valley swept East Stroudsburg North 25-14, 25-10, and 25-14 in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference play.

Pleasant Valley was paced by Lexi Womack, who had seven kills and seven digs. Emma Bergstresser added six kills and one block, and Hannah Akob had five kills and two digs. Brianna Bruckman and Alexis Wilkes shared the setting duties and finished with 14 and 12 assists, respectively.

PV is now 8-6.

Northwestern-Notre Dame

Notre Dame swept Northwestern, 3-0, in a Colonial League match.

Avrie Zentz (seven kills, two aces) and Shannon Green (22 assists, three aces) played well in a losing effort for the Tigers.

Notre Dame improved to 8-1 with the win, while Northwestern dropped to 8-4.

Tamaqua- Pine Grove

Pine Grove swept Tamaqua 25-12, 25-12, and 25-10 in Schuylkill League volleyball.

For Tamaqua, Lacey Beers had nine digs, and Sarah Coccio had three blocks, two digs, and one kill.

The Blue Raiders fell to 1-15. Pine Grove is now 9-3.

Weatherly-Shenandoah

Shenandoah rallied to win the final three games and edge Weatherly 18-25, 22-25, 25-11, 25-16, 15-10 in Schuylkill League play.

Kelly Michaels led Weatherly with eight kills and four digs, while teammate Becca Shell had five kills and seven digs.

Christal Kichlan and Hunter Eichorst both had five kills for the Wreckers, who fell to 2-13 overall.

Palmerton-So. Lehigh

Southern Lehigh swept Palmerton 25-15, 25-6, 25-17 in Colonial League play.

Palmerton was paced by Claire Thomas, who had four digs. Jayleena Cruz chipped in two blocks for the Blue Bombers, while Jess Heydt and Kaitlyn Heimbach had two kills apiece.

Palmerton is now 2-10.
