Chambers plan Walk for Progress in Tamaqua on Oct. 4

October is Local Chamber of Commerce Month, and to celebrate, the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce to hold a walk in Tamaqua.

The Walk for Progress starts at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Perla Building, 105 W. Broad St. After a 1-mile jaunt, participants will return to the Perla Building for light fare, beverages and fellowship.

“The symbolization of this event is to encourage support of local commerce,” said Samantha Chivinski, member services director for the Schuylkill Chamber. The Walk for Progress had been held for some time in downtown Pottsville in conjunction with the Pottsville Business Association.

But several years ago, the Chamber decided to move the walk to highlight affiliate organizations’ areas.

It was held in Schuylkill Haven in 2019, moved to a virtual format because of COVID during 2020, then was in Orwigsburg in 2021.

Chivinski said the walk typically ended with the Taste of Schuylkill, where restaurant and catering members offered appetizers.

“This year, because of the struggles our small businesses are facing like staff shortages and inflation, we’ve decided to hold off on the Taste of Schuylkill portion of the event. The event will end with light fare, but not from several caterers as it was in past years,” said Samantha Chivinski, member services director for the Schuylkill Chamber.

The event, however, will offer prizes to the most spirited and largest teams.

Rain date is Oct. 5.

Registration is $10 per person. To register, visit www.schuylkillchamber.com or call 570-622-1942.

Sponsors include Wegmans, C.A.R.E.S. Community and Residential Empowerment Services, Northeast Edge Associates LLC, Tamaqua Choose Happiness and the Law Office of Christine A. Holman.
