Carbon County Commissioners

Carbon County Commissioners acted on the following items during last week’s meeting.

• Approved a proposal with Snyder Hoffman Associates Inc. of Bethlehem to provide mechanical and electrical consulting engineering services for a new HVAC system at the animal shelter at a total cost of $17,600.

• Adopted an updated portion of the county policy regarding jury duty for employees. It removes the completion of six months of employment requirement. This ensures that all full-time nonunion employees receive no loss in pay when they are called to serve on jury duty.

• Ratified the submission of a grant application for funding through the U.S. Department of Justice Assistance Bulletproof Vests Partnership Act to help offset the costs of new ballistic vests for sheriff’s deputies. The board then approved the award of funding in the amount of $1,812.50 from that act to cover half the cost of the vests.

• Approved an addendum to an agreement with the T2 Systems Inc., formerly United Public Safety/Equipment, to assess and collect fines and citations for parking. The agreement is for three years and will collect a flat fee of $10 per each referred account collected. The goal of this addendum is to help the county collect fines for parking from visitors who didn’t pay their parking ticket.

• Adopted a resolution recognizing Paul Mriss of Lehighton for 50 years of service to the Lehighton Fire Department.
