Franklin approves nepotism ordinance

Franklin Township supervisors have approved a policy that prevents hiring their relatives to any township position.

Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously adopted the ordinance that states no relative of a township employee may be considered for employment with the township.

Per the ordinance, a relative is defined as an employee’s spouse, parent, child, stepchild or sibling.

The policy doesn’t apply to relatives who are currently employed by the township as of the effective date of the policy.

Rather, it’s to be applied to the potential future hiring, promotion, transfer, assignment or reassignment of relatives of current township supervisors and township employees.
