A driver involved in a two-vehicle crash on Friday in Carbon County is suspected of driving under the influence. State police at Lehighton said the crash occurred at 8:04 p.m. along Route 248 at the intersection with Centre Street in Parryville.
Troopers said Lucas A. Long, 35, of Lehighton, was driving a Mercury Milan in the left eastbound lane of 248 at a suspected high rate of speed when his vehicle struck the rear of a Jeep Wrangler operated by Michael Navarro-Vargas, 35, of Bethlehem, who just entered the road from Centre Street.
After impact, Long lost control and his vehicle traveled into the opposing lanes of travel to 248 westbound where it overturned.
Long was not injured but his passengers, Megan M. Eisenhard, 32, of Lehighton, and two girls, both age 1, sustained suspected minor injuries. Eisenhard was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, while the two 1-year-old girls were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital, Franklin Township.
Navarra-Vargas and his passenger, Julianne Vargas-Lopez, 36, of Bethlehem, were not injured.
Both vehicles had to be towed.
Troopers said the investigation into the crash is continuing.
