Lehighton will spend more on information technology services so it can carry out its day-to-day business operations.
Borough council on a 6-0 vote Monday hired DRC Technologies, Northampton, for one year to provide IT services for $25,000.
Before the vote, borough Manager Steve Travers said that Brian Blose, who services the borough’s computers, plans to retire next month.
Travers said the borough had been paying $18,000 a year.
“It will run us a little more than what we had before,” Travers said. “So, you’re going up.”
Travers said he’s been experiencing lengthy delays while awaiting emails.
“Right now, it takes about three days for email to get to me,” he said. “I feel comfortable with (DRC Technologies).”
Travers said DRC would provide the services for the two servers in borough hall, as well as those for Public Works and Light & Power.
Councilwoman Autumn Abelovsky said that based on everything, it makes sense for council to go with DRC.
“I think going with the company he’s familiar with (should) make the transition (real) smooth,” Abelovsky said.
