Cycle strikes car, driver escapes injuries

A motorcyclist failed to stop in time and truck a car that was stopped behind a school bus in an incident at 6:41 a.m. Sept. 1 at the intersection of Merwinsburg Road and Harvest Moon Lane in Chestnuthill Township.

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks said the crash happened when a 2013 Lexus was legally stopped in the southbound lane of Merwinsburg Road behind a school bus that was picking up children. They said the cyclist was operating the bike at a speed and distance that did not allow the operator to stop.

The cycle slid along Merwinsburg Road for about 30 feet before it struck the Lexus.

Police said the cyclist was wearing a helmet and eye protection and was not hurt.

The two vehicles were removed from the scene under their own power.

The operator of the cycle was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.
