Older residents in the region are encouraged to join Rep. Doyle Heffley, R-Carbon, and Sen. John Yudichak, I-Luzerne/Carbon, at their Senior Citizens Expo on Wednesday in Lehighton.
The free event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Co., 2440 Fairyland Road. A free lunch will also be served.
“Our Senior Expo is a one-stop shop for local senior citizens and their caregivers to have access to many businesses and services available to them in our area,” Heffley said. “Information can sometimes be difficult to find. Our expo makes it easier and more convenient by bringing service providers and seniors together at the same time, under one roof.”
“The Carbon County Senior Expo is an event that I look forward to every year as our offices get to offer assistance and visit with many of the great senior citizens of Carbon County,” said Yudichak. “The expo showcases many programs and services for seniors and it allows them to directly access information by speaking with representatives from local, state and federal agencies.”
The expo will feature over 50 exhibitors from the Carbon County area that will present information on their programs and services. In addition, a prescription drug drop-off box will be on-site for seniors to dispose of their unwanted or expired medications.
The legislators will also be collecting nonperishable food items during the expo to donate to a local food bank and ask everyone who attends to consider bringing a donation.
