Palmerton Borough Council

Palmerton Borough Council took the following action on Thursday:

• Announced that waste stations have been installed at the dog park at the West End Recreation Association. Signs are coming from Jet Signs for the park, located along Alley J above portions of the 800 and 900 blocks of Edgemont Avenue.

• Will spend $32,045 for police vehicle upgrade for the police department’s new Ford Interceptor, which includes $12,892 is for lights/sirens; $10,900 for a dashcam; $7,150 for a computer system; and $1,103 for a speed timing device.

• Granted a 30-day extension to allow additional time for borough council to settle a new contract with Teamsters Local 773 of Allentown for the borough’s public works department. The contract is set to expire on Wednesday.

• First reading of an ordinance establishing fee limits for parking tickets. On a 6-1 vote, approved the first reading of a resolution for a proposed $30 fee for all tickets except for violations of handicap parking, as those fees would be $50 for the ticket, and $100 if not paid within 72 hours. Councilman Richard Nothstein was opposed.

• Approved the St. Luke’s stormwater management plan (former Palmerton Hospital), contingent upon all issues being addressed in the borough engineer’s report.

• Approved the police department’s mobile video/audio recording policy.

• Adopted an ordinance that establishes a fee for excessive false alarms.

• Will review potential road projects through the use of American Rescue Plan funds at the September meeting.

• Appointed Raquel Lutton as the borough’s new tax collector, effective Jan. 1, 2023.

• Approved a fire police assistance request for the Valor Clinic for its Charity Bike Ride on Oct. 8.

• Agreed to list a 2008 Ford Explorer, 2010 Ford Crown Vic, three Code-3 LED light bars, and six weigh scales with indicator and printer, for sale on Municibid. The proceeds would go into the borough general fund, which is the fund that paid for those items initially.

• Announced that trick-or-treat will be held in the borough from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 29.
