A salary study on how to create more competitive wages in Carbon County offices is behind schedule, officials report.
Last week, the county commissioners said that the company hired to complete the study is still working on collecting information.
Commissioner Chris Lukasevich said that Evergreen Solutions LLC of Tallahassee, Florida, is canvassing eight counties to look at comparative positions. Carbon County asked to look at approximately 50 positions for the study.
Commissioner Rocky Ahner said the study was supposed to be sent to the county by this past July.
Carbon County hired Evergreen in July 2021 at a cost of $48,000.
The goal of the study was to look at the positions of the over 300 employees and determine a proper compensation scale across all departments for the same type of positions. The county has 16 levels for salaries for nonsupervisory positions and about 21 levels for supervisory.
The last study of employee salary rates was adopted in the 1990s, and since then, the system has been piecemealed because positions evolved and more and more titles were created.
In July, the county salary board took a step with several lower paid positions by removing the grade 4 pay scale and moving all grade 4 employees to grade 5.
Most positions received a bump from $11.16 to $11.38 per hour; while others, which were above the B step in the grade 4 scale, also received a slight bump in hourly wages.
