Carbon DA honors corrections officer

The president of the Carbon County Prison Board honored a corrections officer for his work at saving a co-worker’s life during a shift last month.

District Attorney Michael Greek presented a certificate of recognition last week to Terald Hoherchak for his part in saving another’s life.

According to Greek, a corrections officer was responding to a radio call when he began to choke on an object on July 21.

At that same time, Hoherchak was passing the break room and assisted his co-worker by giving him the Heimlich maneuver and dislodging the obstruction.

Hoherchak then returned to his assigned post.

“... Hoherchak’s quick thinking and immediate response to a serious situation quite possibly saved his fellow officer’s life,” Greek said. “Moreover, his immediate return to his post without even providing (his co-worker) the opportunity to express his gratitude illustrates his modesty and dedication to duty which is worthy of recognition and emulation.”

Greek called Hoherchak’s actions “selfless” and were the “epitome of a professional corrections officer and reflect great credit upon himself and the Carbon County Correctional Facility.”

Hoherchak was present at the prison board meeting and received a framed copy of the recognition.
