Lehigh crashes

State police at Bethlehem reported the following crashes in Lehigh County.

• A two-vehicle crash happened at 4:38 a.m. on Aug. 10 on Route 22 in South Whitehall Township. Police said Alex Cruz Martinez, 61, of Saylorsburg, and Carlos R. Rivera, 46, of Phillipsburg, New Jersey, were driving westbound with Rivera in the right lane. Martinez made a lane change into the right lane when the right rear-end of his Kenworth truck-tractor hit the left front of Rivera’s 2021 Nissan Altima. The Nissan hit a concrete traffic barrier and came to rest in the left lane.

No one was injured but the Nissan had heavy damage while the truck had minor damage, police said.

Martinez was cited for the crash, police said.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported on Aug. 5 along Rextown Road in Washington Township. Police said Alexander W. Fries, 29, of Slatington, was driving a Subaru Legacy westbound too fast for conditions. Fries went through a stop sign at the intersection with Welshtown Road, going into some woods, striking several trees, police said.

Fries and his passenger, Jonathan A. Winkler, 28, of Quakertown, had serious injuries and were taken to a Lehigh Valley hospital by Cetronia ambulance, police said.

Fries was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.
