Lehighton Band to present ‘It’s All About Popular’ concert

The Lehighton Band will present its third and final concert of the 2022 season.

The theme for the concert is “It’s All About Popular,” and it will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Lehighton Borough Park Amphitheater.

The selections in the concert are varied, but all feature popular selections with music to suit every taste.

The band will start with the playing of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” and its opening march is the “Flying Cadets March” by Karl King. The opening overture of the concert is “River of Life” written in a very modern format by one of today’s leading concert band composers, Steven Reineke.

The band will play “Elton John in Concert” arranged by Bob Lowden. The song contains three of his hits including “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” “Daniel” and “Crocodile Rock.” Selections from Disney/Pixar’s “Up.” It contains “We’re in the Club Now,” “The Spirit of Adventure” and “Russell Like Fine Whine.”

Dick Clark passed away in 2012, but his impact on the music world lives on. “Rock, Roll and Remember,” a Salute to Dick Clark includes songs most people associate with Dick Clark or American Bandstand which includes “Bandstand Boogie,” “Rock Around the Clock,” “The Twist,” “Don’t Worry Baby,” “Rockin’ Robin,” “Y.M.C.A.” and “Auld Lang Syne.”

To this day, very few movies have reached the popularity of MGM’s classic motion picture “The Wizard of Oz.” It features “Over the Rainbow,” “Ding, Dong, the Witch is Dead,” “We’re Off to See the Wizard,” “The Merry Old Land of Oz” and “If I Only Had a Brain.”

The next song is titled “Pop and Rock Legends: Neil Diamond,” which incudes his music “America,” “Sweet Caroline,” “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers,” “Cherry, Cherry” and “I’m a Believer.”

The band will play its second march also by Karl King titled “Torch of Liberty.” The band will perform Selections from “The Greatest Showman” which include “The Greatest Show,” “A Million Dreams,” “Never Enough,” “This is Me” and “From Now On.”

The band’s next selection is Barry Manilow on Tour arranged by Robert Lowden and it includes “Jump Shout Boogie,” “Even Now,” “Daybreak,” “Ready to Take a Chance Again” and “Copacabana.”

Those who enjoy action and adventure movies will not be disappointed. The Band will play “Bond … James Bond.” The arrangement of this song was purchased by the band’s first trumpeter Mike Reph and it includes the James Bond Theme, “Goldfinger,” “Nobody Does it Better,” “Skyfall” and “Live and Let Die.” The band will end with yet another Karl King March titled “Wings of Army.”

Bottled water will be provided free of charge courtesy of First Presbyterian Church of Lehighton. In the event of rain, the concert will be held in First Presbyterian Church, Third and Mahoning streets.
