Commissioners are gearing up for the county’s annual fall cleanup in September.
The cleanup will take place from Sept. 6 through Sept. 17 among 16 sites: the Tamaqua Transfer Station, the CES landfill in Hegins, New Ringgold, Pottsville, Minersville, Girardville, North Manheim Township, Schuylkill Haven, Wayne Township, Porter Township, Pine Grove Township, Ringtown, Mahanoy City, Branch Township, East Union Township and Tremont.
The Schuylkill County website will have the exact locations of each site.
This year’s accepted item list will include tires, appliances and bulky items, and it is open to all county residents.
There will be no electronics accepted this year.
On Wednesday, commissioners approved fees for collection of several types of junk.
Tires: only automobile, light truck and motorcycle; recreational vehicle tires up to 16-inch diameter are accepted. The price is $2.50 per tire without rims and $3.50 per tire with rims. There is a limit of 12 tires per load, and no more than two loads per customer. Municipalities will also be charged the per tire fee and are asked to make an appointment with the host collection site for large loads.
Appliances: Freon bearing (air conditioners, refrigerators, and dehumidifiers), $10 each.
Non-Freon bearing and scrap metal (stoves, washers, dryers, water heaters, bicycles, barbecue grills, metal furniture), no charge.
Bulky items (mattresses, box springs, rolls of carpet, doors and windows) $10 each.
Sofas and overstuffed chairs, $5 per cushion (for example, a love seat has two cushions and so would be $10).
