Sound system set for Summit Hill council chambers

A portable sound system is set to be implemented in the council chambers of Summit Hill Borough Hall.

In June, it was agreed on the recommendation of council member Karen Ruzicka to purchase microphones from Amazon at a cost not to exceed $1,089.

On Tuesday, Councilman David Wargo said the mics won’t function without an amplifier and speakers. Wargo said he brought his personal speakers and amplifier to the borough hall and tried them and the setup worked fine.

As a result, the council agreed to buy amplifiers, speakers, necessary cable and other items to make the sound system operable. The cost from Amazon will be $600 to $800, Wargo said.

Council members in the past said such a system was necessary because of poor sound acoustics in the borough hall.

In other matters:

• The council received a report from Kathy Gieniec, chairman of the Recreation Commission, indicating the commission has been very busy.

Ruzicka said weekly yoga classes which the commission sponsors at the Hilltop Community Center are well-attended and “bringing in pretty much money.”

The commission was granted permission to host a “Back to School Movie Night” in Ludlow Park on Aug. 17 at 7:30 p.m. The rain date will be Aug. 24.

Shown will be the film “Hotel Transylvania 4.”

Refreshments will be available.

A children’s paint and snack was held Aug. 4 and was a success. As a result, an adult paint and sip will be held on Sept. 22. The cost will be $35 and it is BYOB. It will be available to the first 10 adults. Artist Wayne Yurchak will be present.

Gourds and Ghouls will be held in the Ludlow Park at 1 p.m. on Oct. 29. The rain date is Oct. 30.

Christmas on the Hill is scheduled for Dec. 4.

• The council said its borough police and fire police will be allowed to assist in the annual Switchback Scamper on Oct. 23. The request was made by the Lutheran Church in Jim Thorpe.

• Karen Smith and Albert Ditzler were granted permission to use the gazebo in Ludlow Park on Oct. 15 for a wedding ceremony.

• The council approved a maintenance agreement with H.T. Lyons for the HVAC systems in the municipal building, community center and fire company. The cost will be $2,768 for semiannual inspections. This is an increase of $132 from the present contract.
