Nesquehoning fills vacancies on water, blight committees

Nesquehoning Borough Council filled a few vacancies on boards and authorities, but there are several openings that remain.

On Wednesday, council voted to appoint Joe Pilla to the open seat on the water authority board. He fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Gary Porembo.

Paul Kattner and June Lawton were appointed to the blight committee, which is now forming.

Councilwoman Abbie Guardiani commended these people for stepping up. She pointed out that there were three other letters of interest for the water authority board and said that while they chose Pilla, it doesn’t mean it was a vote against them.

She hopes that the other three will submit letters for other vacancies the borough has.

The borough currently has two vacancies on its zoning hearing board, recreation commission and blight committee. It also has one vacancy on the planning commission.

Any borough resident can serve on these boards. To send a letter of interest, mail it to the borough at 114 W. Catawissa St. before council’s Aug. 24 meeting.
