Lehighton superintendent to start Aug. 1
Lehighton Area School District’s board approved a number of personnel moves Monday including announcing the start date for its new superintendent.
Christina Fish, hired in late June, will start on Aug. 1, kicking off a three-year contract calling for her to make $132,500 with a 3% increase in each of the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years.
Fish, who has spent the last 12 years as Central Columbia’s director of pupil services/special education, will also receive a $7,500 signing bonus.
With Fish starting, the board also approved Acting Superintendent John W. “Jack” Corby to transition to acting assistant to the superintendent on Aug. 1 at a daily rate of $600. He will serve in that role until Oct. 31 at the latest while the district searches for a permanent person for the position.
Hires
Lehighton also hired several employees Monday including:
• Justin Smith, supervisor of buildings and grounds, at an annual salary of $61,500,
• Tyler Harris, high school social studies teacher, at an annual salary of $45,000,
• Melissa Armbruster, 12-month secretary, at annual Salary of $28,028,
• Michele Dobrowski, 10-month secretary, at an annual salary of $24,489, and
• Diane Brownmiller, Jennifer Lorenz and Candace Gandy as Title 1 reading summer program teachers at $31 per hour.
Resignations
Lehighton accepted four resignations Monday including: Trevor Miller, high school business, computer, and information technology teacher; Laura Schiffer, high school social studies teacher; Grace Sterling, summer cleaner; and Jessica Habas, middle school emotional support teacher.
Retirement
The board also accepted utility custodian Robert Rehnert’s retirement after 35 years of service with Lehighton.
