Tamaqua to spend $379K to replace roofs

Tamaqua Area School District will spend $379,422 to restore and repair the roofs on multiple buildings.

The projects include repair and restoration at all four Tamaqua Area schools and the district office, and will take place over the next two years.

The cost of repair and restoration is as follows

Tamaqua Middle School, $136,000

Tamaqua Elementary, $90,389

District office, $55,000

West Penn Elementary, $48,891

Tamaqua High School, $10,642

Other maintenance on all buildings, $38,500

The repairs will be funded with capital funds.

Contract

The board approved a two-year contract with the union representing the district’s custodians, aides and secretaries.

The new contract with the Tamaqua Area Education Support Personnel Association runs through June 30, 2025.

The union contract includes 70 cent per hour raises. The starting salary for custodians is $11, and for maintenance, secretaries and aides, $12.

It replaces the last year of the existing contract. There are 55 members.

Under the current contract, aides, secretaries and the maintenance department will receive a 45 cent per hour raise. Custodians will receive a 40-cent raise.

The board:

• Accepted the resignation of School Police Officer Henry Woods, effective Aug. 1

• Approved the hire of Colin Rex, K-12 physical education teacher, at a salary of $43,360; Alyssa Wagner, career counselor, $50,663; and Kelly Klimowitch, social worker, $50,663.
