Tamaqua police

Tamaqua police recently investigated the following incidents.

• Billyann Perez, 39, of Tamaqua, faces simple assault and harassment charges after she struck a borough man multiple times with a wrench on June 17.

According to Tamaqua police, the man said Perez hit him in the arm and back with the wrench, and showed police bruises and bite marks caused by Perez on his body. He said he tried to sleep after the assault but due to cerebral palsy and other illnesses it was difficult. He said he finally fell asleep but awoke when Perez hit him in the face with an unknown object. Police said his left eye was red and swollen.

He complained of severe pain from the assault, police said.

• Police charged Christopher Schaefer, 49, of Tamaqua, with simple assault and harassment following a June 26 domestic incident in the borough.

Police received a report of an altercation involving Schaefer on Hazle Street around 3:30 p.m. He was not at the location but officers spotted him a short distance away. He was taken into custody.

Police said the female victim claimed Schaefer pushed her and kicked her in the stomach, which caused her to fall backward and strike her head on a door. Police said she had an inch laceration on her head and redness on her arm. Tamaqua EMS transported her to St. Luke’s Miners Campus.

Schaefer was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer in Tamaqua. Bail was set at $10,000 unsecured.
