Franklin Twp. fire company announces fundraisers, events
Members of the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company, fire police and auxiliary have finalized plans for many upcoming fundraising events.
Chris Lilly, president of the Franklin Township Fire Company Auxiliary, outlined the fire company’s fundraisers set to take shape for the second half of this year.
Along with weekly Thursday night bingo, there are dinners, high-stakes bingo, the festive block party with fireworks in July, and the ever-popular Giant Yard Sale in August.
Lilly gave special thanks to their Corporate Community Sponsor, St. Luke’s University Health Network.
She explained they’ve been using the funds they’ve raised for their renovations project that spanned several years and has included:
• Replacement of the roof.
• Finished a storage extension to the rear of the building.
• Replaced exterior doors.
• Insulated the exterior of the building.
• Finished the remodel of the inside of the building (floor, ceiling and walls).
• Added “mood lighting” sconces.
• Finished the St. Luke’s foyer to welcome visitors.
• Upgraded interior electrical wiring.
In addition to payments for electric, heat, fuel, insurances, Lilly said future plans include:
• Refinishing the exterior of the building
• Upgrading the electrical connections on the exterior
• Paving the parking lot.
• Upgrading their 1990 pumper.
• Replacing various firefighting equipment as it wears out.
Lilly noted that the auxiliary, fire police and firefighters are pooling member resources and efforts to finance a new firetruck.
Thursday bingo
Doors open at 4:30 p.m., kitchen and sales at 5 p.m.; bingo starts at 6 p.m.
There is no bingo July 28, Aug. 11, Aug. 18 or Nov. 24.
Drive-thru/take-out dinners
The first is on July 15, and will feature a choice of baked ham or baked haddock, macaroni and cheese or filling with gravy, vegetable, bread and butter. The price is $12 per platter. Orders may be picked up at the fire company between 3:30-6 p.m. July 15. Order deadline is July 13.
The second one will be held Sept. 16, and will feature a choice of baked chicken or baked haddock, mashed potatoes or filling with gravy, vegetable, bread and butter. The price is $12 per platter. Orders may be picked up at the fire company between 3:30-6 p.m. Sept. 16. Order deadline is Sept. 14.

Block Party
The Block Party will be held July 29-30.
It starts at 4 p.m. daily and features a giant basket raffle; barrel of money, produce basket, family fun raffle, money raffle, chance on big ticket items, cash drawing, bake sale, kitchen open, bingo, games, candy, homemade food, waffles and ice cream, and much more.
Children’s entertainment consists of a bounce house, games and Buster the Clown.
From 4-7 p.m. July 29, there will be a seafood dinner. Tommy Guns will perform from 6-10 p.m.
On July 30, Mystery City will perform from 6-10 p.m. Fireworks will follow after 10 p.m.
Giant Yard Sale
The Giant Yard Sale will be held Aug. 19-21.
Drop gently used items off at the fire company from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 9-10, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 13, and from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 15-16.
Sale days are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 19 and Aug. 20. Bargain Sunday will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 21.
