PennDOT to conduct surveys in Weissport

Several residents and businesses in Weissport received letters from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation regarding anticipated work on the Thomas J. McCall Memorial Bridge.

PennDOT will be doing tests and surveys ahead of the work, the letter from Right of Way Administrator Kenneth S. Kuchinsky, states.

“I don’t know how many people got letters,” council President Arland Moyer said, “but we received a letter from PennDOT; they want to come and do surveys and test. I got one (for my home).”

“In line with the Department of Transportation’s responsibility to develop plans for highway improvements in your area, department representatives, consultants, or contractors may need to enter your land in order to conduct surveys, engineering studies, soil exploration, tests, and/or soundings to gather information,” the letter states. “The entry is authorized by the Pennsylvania Eminent Domain Code and may include the use of core drilling rigs and/or other equipment.

“The department will notify you personally, if possible, prior to entry. Please be assured that our entry to conduct these surveys does not mean that your property has been selected for transportation improvements. In the event that a transportation improvement would affect your property, you will be contacted personally by a department representative.”

No dates have been provided yet as to when the surveys will begin.

No information was available on what type of work will be done on the bridge.

Yard sale

In other matters, the Weissport Event Committee will hold a communitywide yard sale this Saturday, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Weissport Borough Park.

People can rent a space in advance but must provide their own tables and take all unsold items home.

They are still looking for more vendors.
