Nesquehoning officials chose to take some extra time before filling a vacancy created earlier this month when a longtime councilman passed away.
On Wednesday, the board opted to announce it was still taking letters of interest to fill the vacant seat that Frank Jacobs Sr. held for several years.
Jacobs passed away on May 2 at the age of 89 and was active on Nesquehoning boards, either as the borough mayor or on council since 1978.
Council has received a few letters, but felt that more time was needed. It has 30 days to fill the vacancy, so a special meeting on the matter will be called in the coming weeks.
Anyone interested in sitting on council should send a letter of interest to the borough at 114 W. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning.
