Scouts, students, assist Lehighton UVO in placing flags on veterans’ graves

They placed flags on the graves of veterans to pay their respects to our fallen heroes.

In doing so, members of Boy Scout Troop 187, Cub Pack 145 and Girl Scout Troop 3802 in Lehighton gained an even greater appreciation for their sacrifices.

They, along with Lehighton Area Elementary Center fifth-grade teacher Ron Rabenold’s history students, joined members of the American Legion Post 314 of Lehighton. The groups met at the Legion on Thursday evening, at which point they made their way up to the Lehighton Cemetery.

Fifth-grader Wesley Tkach of Lehighton said he’s glad he could participate in the activity.

“It makes me feel happy that I’m doing this,” said Wesley, 11. “I’m remembering the people who fought, and we all miss them.”

Kingsley Cruz of Lehighton said he was also proud to take part in the event.

“I felt if I did this, I would feel good because these people sacrificed their lives for this country,” said Kingsley, 11.

Commander Kevin “Spike” Long said, “It’s important to instill, participate, reflect when they put the flag on a veteran’s grave.”
