May 25, 2005 - Tamaqua’s Kory Bates throws a two-hit shutout to help the Blue Raiders post a 9-0 victory over Palmerton in a District 11 Class 2A quarterfinal playoff game. Bates strikes out 12 batters and walks five in his 119-pitch performance. He also helps his own cause by driving in four runs, with three coming on a homer in the fifth inning. Tamaqua, coached by Jeff Reading, also receives a three-run blast off the bat of Andy Snyder. Bates, along with Ryan Gerber, Mark Mehalko and Shane Spotts, all finish with two hits in the contest.
