Farm tractor crashes, spilling liquid manure

State police at Schuylkill Haven reported investigating the crash of a farm tractor which was pulling a manure spreader.

Troopers said the crash occurred at 3:22 p.m. on May 13 along Moyers Station Road in Wayne Township. Jeffrey A. Herring, 48, of Schuylkill Haven, was driving a 2006 Challenger model tractor pulling a manure spreader tanker southbound. The brakes on the tanker trailer failed forcing the tractor and tanker to jackknife. Herring attempted to keep the tractor on the road was but unsuccessful. The tractor was pushed off the roadway and down an embankment about 25 feet. The manure spreader was fully loaded with over 600 gallons of manure and tipped over spilling a large part of its contents.

Herring was not injured and the tractor sustained minor damages. The road was closed for several hours while the remaining tanker contents were off loaded and the crash scene cleared. The Department of Environmental Protection responded to monitor a nearby creek.

Herring was cited for the crash.
