Volunteers’ times

Polk Township Fire Company volunteers have been busy. They responded to 16 emergencies, completed 174 hours of training and participated in 134 hours of fundraising in March and in April they responded to 20 emergencies, totaling 77 emergency responses by the end of April.

They also completed 186 hours of training and participated in 42 hours of fundraising.

PV Arts Awards

The Pleasant Valley High School Performing Arts awards are to be presented at 6 p.m. today.

Legion Auxiliary

The Legion Auxiliary, Unit 927, will meet 7 p.m. today at the Legion Post Home in Gilbert. Guests are welcome.

Polk meeting

A general meeting of the Polk Township Supervisors is set for 8 a.m. Thursday at the municipal building in Kresgeville.

PVHS spring choir

On Thursday, the PV High School spring choir concert will be presented from 7 to 8 p.m. in the high school new auditorium.

WELL board meets

The West End Little League’s Board of Directors is scheduled to meet at 7:30 p.m. at the Chestnuthill Township Park. This is for board members only. Next Wednesday is the open meeting at the same time and same place.

PV School Board

The PV School District Board of Education is set to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the District Office.

Brotherhood event

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, is having its gathering at noon on Friday. Anyone 55 and older wishing to attend is welcome, but is asked to bring a dish to share.

The Legion Auxiliary, Unit 927, will meet 7 p.m. today at the Legion Post Home in Gilbert. Guests are welcome.

Youth fundraiser

The Youth of Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church are raising money for Philadelphia Dream Center Missions Day. Anyone who would like to purchase pastelillos, see one of the youth or connect with Pastor Marcos and Pastor Yaz.

Flea market

St. Peter’s UMC spring flea market will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, with a rain date of May 21. The church is located next to Dollar General on Route 115.

Food will be available, for a cost, from the church kitchen. Vendor spaces may be reserved by calling 570-992-6930.

The autumn flea market will be held Sept. 17.

Garden opens

The Garden of Giving, McMichaels, will again be open from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday to prepare for the planting of crops on May 21. In addition to volunteers, including board members, the garden is seeking someone with skill as a beekeeper. Bees are the hard workers of any garden and are necessary for pollination of the crops. A side benefit will be delicious, golden honey.

Bike night held

An open bike night is being held Saturday at the American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert, as sponsored by the Legion Riders Chapter 927.

The event, from 5 to 9 p.m., includes food, drinks and classic rock music by DJ Jammin Joe.

There will also be a best bike contest and a 50/50 drawing.

Sunday breakfast

Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 839 of Sciota is having its first pancake breakfast of the season this Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the hangar, 222 Hickory Lane, Saylorsburg.

Directions are: turn off Route 209 at Miller’s Flower Shop by Kate.

The breakfast features all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, orange juice and coffee for a set cost. A giant striped tent will provide shade and ambience for breakfast diners as they are surrounded by private aircraft and spiffy British automobiles: The Keystone British Car Club will display their prized vehicles.

Additionally, the pilots of EAA 839 will offer free Young Eagle flights to young people ages 7-17. Parental release forms are required.

Riders meeting

The American Legion Riders monthly meeting is changed to May 15 at 10:30 a.m. at the American Legion Post 927, 646 Fairgrounds Road/Route 209, Gilbert, due to Mother’s Day celebrated this past Sunday.

Monday bingo

American Legion Post 927, beginning at 6:30 p.m., with card sales is a place for public bingo. Playing begins at 7 p.m.

Getting ready

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will be having a flea market volunteer meeting in McCawley Hall at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Township cancels

Chestnuthill Township Board of Supervisors will not meet Tuesday, due to the primary election.

Valor support

The American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, will host the monthly Valor support meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The meeting is open to anyone. Guests welcome.

Food pantry open

Effort UMC’s SFRC food pantry is open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Soup sale held

Three kinds of soup are being offered by Effort UMC for its next soup sale: shrimp, roasted corn chowder and old-fashioned ham and bean. Orders must be placed by next Wednesday.

Pickup is May 22.

Breakfast served

Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company is serving up its monthly all-you-can-eat buffet style breakfast from 7 to 11:30 a.m. this Sunday.

Church movie time

Teens & Pre-teens of Effort UMC and their respective friends can enjoy a movie right after the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday.

Sign-up is necessary. The movie is entitled: I Believe.

Effort yarn group

The Prayer Shawl group of Effort UMC will be meeting from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Academic Awards

The PV High School Academic Awards will be presented at 6 p.m. May 18.

Eldred Township

The Eldred Township Board of Supervisors is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. May 18 at the municipal building on Kunkletown Road.

Poppy sales set

The American Legion Post 927 members, Gilbert, will begin their poppy sales on May 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1st Northern Bank.

The continued sales schedule includes: 1 to 5 p.m., Kinsley's ShopRite, May 21; 1 to 5 p.m., ShopRite, May 25; and May 27, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ESSA Bank.

May race/walk

The West End Park and Open Space Commission has announced the Eighth Annual Dave Fleetwood Memorial Trail Run/Walk at the West End Regional Park, 578 Evergreen Hollow Road in Chestnuthill Township, beginning at 9 a.m. May 22.

All proceeds will fund the Dave Fleetwood Memorial Scholarship to recognize a Pleasant Valley High School graduate who exemplifies the outstanding attributes of Mr. Fleetwood.

Fireman’s carnival

On June 2, 3 and 4, the West End Fireman’s carnival is scheduled to take place at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert. The proceeds from that event will benefit the four local fire companies.

Bands being featured include: starting at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, The Hawks and the Cramer Brothers Band; starting at 5:45 p.m. Friday, Chris Eckert and the Brian Dean Moore Band; and Saturday, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Brothers; and from 6 to 9 p.m., Midnight Special.

Various foods and drinks will be available every night.

Sponsors are still being sought and craft vendors wanted.
