The Tamaqua Borough Council hired a number of people to a variety of borough posts and set pay rates for several positions.
Carl Yaccino and Lonnie Ahner will serve as full-time wastewater treatment plant operators. Yaccino will receive $25.84 per hour and Ahner will be paid $24 per hour. The pay difference is based on the men’s licenses.
Ryan Kennedy was hired as a part-time police officer, effective immediately.
As for pay rates, utility clerks will receive $20 per hour and the borough secretary/receptionist will be paid $21.30 per hour.
General maintenance workers will receive $12.50 per hour plus an additional 25 cents for each year of service.
All rate changes became effective May 1.
In police news, council approved a request to send Patrolman Karl Harig to a free basic homicide investigation course at the Hershey State Police Academy in September.
Sgt. Thomas Rodgers will attend a Less Lethal Impact Munitions Instructor course in Walnutport on June 13 at a cost of $275.
Finally, council approved a handicapped parking space application for 28 E. Elm St. and noted that they will approve an updated list of handicapped parking spaces.
