Trinity happenings

Trinity’s steeple is scheduled to be returned and installed Thursday. Anyone is invited to view the work after 8 a.m. at Third and Iron streets, Lehighton. The 37-foot steeple containing the 2,500-pound bell were removed July 22, 2021, by technicians from Campbellsville Industries Inc., Campbellsville, Kentucky, for repairs and restoration. After prep and safety measures are in place, the steeple will be secured above the 40-foot roof. The familiar tolling of the bell is expected to return later in the day.

First Saturday worship with Holy Communion begins at 5 p.m. Holy Communion is served by continuous line with wafer placed in your open hand, and wine or grape juice in a small cup. Gluten free wafers are available to those with allergy issues. Sunday worship with musical offerings from the Trinity Praise Band begins at 9:30 a.m. Masks are no longer required, however, if you are not fully vaccinated, please continue to wear a mask over the nose and mouth for your own protection and safety. Coffeehouse fellowship follows the Sunday morning worship at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Nancy L. Moore presides. Vicar Sarah Moore assists.

Sunday Church School classes begin at 10:45 a.m. for students ages 3 through sixth grade. Face masks are strongly encouraged for the protection of those attending. In addition, catechetical classes for students in seventh and eighth grades take place at this time.

Youth Group for students in grades 7 through 12 does not meet Sunday evening. The next meeting is May 22 at 5 p.m.

The Trinity Thrift Store is open without reservations. Shopping and drop-off hours are Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Donation drop-offs are accepted during store hours, limited to five bags or boxes. The Food Pantry continues to be open Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (and third Tuesday from 5:30-7 p.m.) with an outdoor drive-up setting and precautionary measures in place. Residents in need who reside in the Lehighton Area School District are eligible to receive prepackaged supplemental food items. Participants must remain in their vehicle at time of pick up. Pantry volunteers will assist pedestrians/those not in vehicles.

For those desiring to schedule a baptism or seek membership at Trinity, please contact the church office to register for the 1 p.m. instruction sessions for May. Baptismal guidelines are held on the third Sunday, overview for prospective new members are held the fourth Sunday with Pastor Moore.

Looking ahead is Trinity hosting a 24-member bicycling team from the University of Illinois overnight Wednesday, May 25. The Illini4000 are cycling across America, final destination is San Francisco. This marks the 14th year for the team documenting the American cancer experience, and raising funds for their designated cancer research and their list of beneficiaries supporting those affected with cancer. Please consider being in attendance to welcome and greet the team as they arrive between 4-6 p.m. at the Lehighton Outdoor Center on Lehigh Drive, Lehighton, before retiring for the evening. Their next leg takes them to Milton, Pennsylvania.
