Bones found on a property in Lansford over the weekend prompted a response from local and state police.
But Lansford Police say they are confident that the bones are from an animal, and not a human.Around 7 p.m. Saturday night Lansford Police were notified of bones discovered on a property on East Abbott Street.A state police forensics unit was dispatched to the scene to exhume and examine the bones. That was done "out of an abundance of caution" to definitively identify the bones, Chief Jack Soberick said.A state police spokesman did not return calls for comment Monday or Tuesday morning.Soberick said he believes it is highly unlikely that the bones are human."From all of the information gleaned from the on-scene investigation, we are all but 100 percent positive that these bones are in fact from an animal," Soberick said. The presence of the forensics unit led some neighbors to believe that police were investigating a suspicious death. Some people posted on social media that a child's bones had been found in the walls of the home."Unless there is some startling finding when the bones are examined, this matter is already considered closed," Soberick said.
