Nesquehoning fire and two units of the Bureau of Forestry responded to a brush fire Friday afternoon along Route 54. The fire was reported around 3:15 p.m. by passing motorists along the south side of the roadway near the intersection with Mountain Avenue. Strong winds were fanning the flames in the heavy brush. A
red flag warning was in effect throughout the day, meaning that strong wind, low humidity and dry fuels could cause any fire to quickly get out of control and become difficult to contain.
