West End news for April 13, 2022

Spring recess

Pleasant Valley School District will be on spring recess as of different dismissal times for their respective school today until Tuesday.

Auxiliary meeting

The American Legion Auxiliary Post 927 will meet at 7 p.m. today at the Legion Post home in Gilbert.

Eldred meeting

The next Eldred Township Planning Commission meeting is 7 p.m. today. The Planning Commission will be creating a fireworks ordinance to be submitted to the Board of Supervisors for review and possible enactment.

Holy Thursday

Effort UMC will have a Maundy Thursday simple dinner (soup and bread) at 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. with a Maundy Thursday worship service being held at 7 p.m.

McMichaels UMC is having a Holy Thursday Communion service around the tables at 5 p.m.

St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, will host a covered dish supper at 6 p.m. on Holy Thursday. It will be followed by a worship service in the sanctuary at 7 p.m. that will remember Jesus’ last meal with his closest friends. Holy Communion will be part of that service.

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, will have a Holy Thursday Communion service at 7 p.m. recognizing Jesus Last Supper with His disciples.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, will celebrate Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7 p.m. followed by 24 Hour Adoration. However, there will be no 8 a.m. Mass the morning.

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran, Kresgeville, will have a 1 and 7 p.m. service with Holy Communion.

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, will hold a worship service at 7:30 p.m. It will also be on Facebook Live.

WELL board

The West End Little League Board of Directors is on the calendar for meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Park on Route 715 in Brodheadsville. It is a closed meeting.

The public meeting follows next Thursday.

Moon bog walk

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center offers a Full Moon Bog Walk Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m.

Participants will explore the bog under the light of a full moon. The walk begins at 6:30 p.m. and participants should bring a flashlight and wear appropriate footwear. There is a cost.

Preregistration required and limited. Directions are: travel Route 611, at the light at the Tannersville Inn turn onto Cherry Lane Road. The bog parking lot is 1.9 miles from 611 on the right.

Good Friday services

Cornerstone Church will have a Good Friday service at 7 p.m., with child care for nursery through preschool.

Effort UMC will have a Good Friday service at 7 p.m. with a dramatic reading based on the seven last words of Christ from the Cross. All are invited.

Middlecreek Christian, Kresgeville, will hold a Good Friday Service at 7 p.m.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will hold a Tenebrae service at 9 a.m., but no 8 a.m. Mass, and a Celebration of the Lord’s Passion at 7 p.m.

The Youth Group famine begins at 9 a.m. on Good Friday.

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, will have a Good Friday service with Holy Communion at 7 p.m.

Salem-St. Paul’s is having worship services at 1 and 7 p.m. with the reading of the Passion of Our Lord.

St. John’s Lutheran, Effort, will have a Good Friday service at 7 p.m.

Zion Lutheran will have a Good Friday service at 7:30 p.m. It will also be on Facebook Live.

Easter egg hunts

The West End Park and Open Space Commission has set its Easter Egg hunt for 1 p.m. Saturday, at Ross Township Park.

Besides eggs, there will be special prize eggs and the Easter Bunny, as well as punchcards, and an opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for a drawing to be held immediately following the egg hunt. One must be present to win.

St. Matthew’s UCC is having its egg hunt at 3 p.m. Saturday, weather permitting. If not, it will be inside the gymnasium at the Eldred Township Community Center.

Holy Saturday

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will have no Mass at 8 a.m. or Confessions, but another Tenebrae prayer service at 9 a.m.; the Blessing of the Easter Baskets at 1 p.m.; the Easter egg hunt at 2 p.m.; and the Great Easter Vigil at 8 p.m.

Polk meeting

The Polk Township Board of Supervisors is slated to meet at 8 a.m. Monday at the township municipal building in Kresgeville for a general meeting.

Bingo time

Monday, at 6:30 p.m., at the Legion Hall in Gilbert, the doors open to community participation in bingo time. Cards can be bought then and playing begins at 7 p.m.
