A request to memorialize its bocce courts for a former manager for Special Olympics of Carbon County has received the go-ahead.
On Monday, borough council agreed to have borough recreation director Tom Evans work with Special Olympics on a request to place a commemorative plaque at the bocce courts for Lisa Cooper.
Cooper was a former manager for Special Olympics of Carbon County who passed away in January from COVID-19.
In February, Nik Millen, the head bocce coach for Carbon County Special Olympics, asked the borough to dedicate the courts in honor of Cooper.
Millen told council at that time he previously received permission to use the courts at Baer Memorial.
The bench is being built by students from Carbon Career & Technical Institute. A tree would be planted, with permission, and the final item would be a sign.
