Book walk set for Bowmanstown

An educational community activity in which an illustrated children’s book is posted along a walking path is set to take shape in Bowmanstown.

Borough council on Tuesday approved the Bowmanstown Area Residents Connected “Spring into Motion” Book Walk to be held on May 21.

Council granted their request to attach story panels along the Bowmanstown park fence using zip ties until the end of June for the Book Walk.

However, council said they should inform the Bowmanstown Baseball Association as a courtesy to not interrupt their use.

Councilwoman Kara Scott said it’s a collaborative effort between Bowmanstown Area Residents Connected, Palmerton Area Library and Bowmanstown Lions Club.

Scott said the book, “Up, Down, and Around” by Katherine Ayres, celebrates gardening, getting outdoors and being active.

She said the endeavor would create a book walk along the fence at the Bowmanstown park. Laminated story panels would be attached to the fence.

Scott said the story panels will have QR codes so participants can access information about BARC, the Palmerton Area Library and Bowmanstown information on their smartphone.

She said there will also be a brief optional survey to see how many people are visiting the book walk.

The materials are funded through a donation from the Bowmanstown Lions Club to support joint library and BARC programs in Bowmanstown.
