Carbon County commissioners

The Carbon County Commissioners acted on or discussed the following items during their weekly meeting on Thursday.

• Approved rescinding an item approved Jan. 13 with Radio Maintenance Inc. of Reading to purchase 10 Motorola XPR7550e UHF portable radios for the Carbon County Correctional Facility and approved an agreement with the same company to purchase 10 Motorola R7 UHF portable radios. The cost for the 10 radios is $10,490 and includes a five-year hardware and software warranty.

• Approved a request from the director of domestic relations to hire Victor E. Muncy Inc. of Pottsville to install and upgrade two lock sets on two doors in the office at a total cost of $370.

• Approved a proposal with Contech Engineered Solutions LLC of Atlanta, Georgia, to purchase materials for the Red Hill Road culvert Community Development Block Grant project in Franklin Township for a total cost of $43,968 unassembled and delivered.

• Approved a proposal with Johnson Controls Fire Protection of Allentown for one additional electronic door lock for the front door of the 76 Susquehanna St. building. The cost is $2,513.12.

• Tabled a motion to adopt a resolution acknowledging the Carbon County 2021 hazard mitigation plan due to some changes that Commissioners Chris Lukasevich and Wayne Nothstein wanted to see made.

• Approved an amendment to a section of the agreement of sale with Reading Blue Mountain and Northern Railroad of Port Clinton, which covers replacing the existing rail crossing to the county parking lot in Jim Thorpe. The amendment will include active warning and control devices for vehicles and pedestrians to be completed within 24 months of the closing date. The original contract said 12 months.

Commissioner Rocky Ahner said the pedestrian crossing improvements are scheduled to begin in the next month.

• The shade awning for the Carbon County Animal Shelter has been installed.

• Ahner also reported that the prison roof project is expected to be completed by April 14.
