Route 309 in West Penn Township was closed to traffic late Friday night due to police activity.
The incident began around 11 p.m. when a motorist spotted flames while traveling on the north side of the Ridge Cup.
That report lead to a dispatch of the West Penn Fire Company for a brush fire. When firefighters arrived on scene they found at least one man in the woods at the site who apparently was not cooperating with officials.
A request was made for police but since West Penn had no officers on duty the call was handed off to state police at Frackville.
Several surrounding communities sent officers to the scene who located the resident. It appeared he was camping on his property and someone spotted the campfire.
