Franklin Township supervisors took the following action on Tuesday:
• Agreed to send a letter of support to the Department of Community and Economic Development Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program for the Lehigh Canal Recreation Commission’s Weissport Canal Overflow project. The letter is needed by the Lehigh Canal Recreation Commission to apply for a grant to do upgrades to two water overflow areas, one along Long Run Road, the other near the Boatyard. The purpose of the grant is to do upgrades to prevent erosion, and to keep the waters from damaging the towpath. Lehighton has water lines along the towpath that could be damaged if flooded.
• Hired Brian Miller to the road crew at the rate of $16 per hour, beginning on Feb. 28.
• Agreed to have Brinker Tree Service, of Palmerton, cut down two trees behind the township administration building at a cost of $2,500.
• Approved the Waste Management’s “Industrial Waste & Disposal Services (amended) Agreement, effective immediately.
• Agreed to use a WEX fuel card to purchase fuel after no bids were once again received for 87 Octane No/Lead Gasoline.
• On a 2-1 vote, extended the Declaration of Disaster regarding COVID-19 until June 30. Supervisor Jason Frey was opposed.
