Pleasant Valley School District’s new dress code policy was on the agenda again Thursday night for review. It will go up for vote at the school board’s next meeting on March 24. The policy eliminates the uniform requirement for all grades.
If the new policy passes, it will go into effect on April 1.
The policy change has met with mixed reviews with some parents looking forward to ditching the uniforms while others say uniforms level the economic playing field.
Then there are some parents who just wish it was going into effect next school year, since they have already purchased hundreds of dollars worth of uniforms for this school year that they won’t need come April.
Noelle Swiatkowski, a parent in Chestnuthill Township, said at the school board meeting, “I just wanted to see if they could take into consideration - like I’m all for either or - but to start it on April 1 when we just dropped $500 at the beginning of the school year on uniforms, to try and consider that times are tough right now and to wait until next school year. That‘s my only concern. There’s two months left and just ride it out until next year.”
The school board did not discuss the policy at the meeting.
