Carbon County is looking for a new food service provider for the correctional facility.
On Thursday, the board of commissioners approved an advertisement for an invitation to bid for food services on Penn Bid.
The county recently received correspondence from Trinity Services Group of Oldsmar, Florida, terminating the food services agreement at the end of its contract on June 1.
Commissioner Rocky Ahner said the county did have some discussion with Trinity, but decided that to keep things fair, the board decided to put the service contract out for bid to hopefully get the best price.
Ahner noted the contract will include changes to calorie counts per meal, how many hot meals inmates receive per day and types of foods after inmates had previously complained about the menu.
Trinity has been the food service provider at the correctional facility in Nesquehoning since August 2013 after the county decided to outsource the kitchen service rather than hosting it in-house.
